Enchanted getaway
An enchanted getaway in a natural gem.
Duration: 1 day
You don’t have to cross the Atlantic to enjoy dream spots.
During your vacation in the Vendée, you’ll find small coves with white sand and crystal-clear waters.
To find the most beautiful beaches in Vendée, head for Yeu Island.
In addition to discovering breathtaking spots, it’s undoubtedly an experience you’ll never forget.
You’ll remember it forever!
As you can see, for this experience, in addition to your sneakers, don’t forget your swimsuits.
There are two options for getting to the island.
You can choose between sea or air.
Boarding from the port of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.
The Compagnie Vendéenne offers crossings all year round.
You can find all the crossing times on this website: https://www.compagnie-vendeenne.com/fr/saint-gilles-croix-de-vie
The advantage of taking the boat to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is that the pier is less than 30 minutes from the campsite, and they offer free parking.
Here is the list of free parking lots:
- Ile d’Yeu” parking lot, 500 m from the landing stage
- parking at the old swimming pool, 1km from the pier
The trip takes 60 minutes, just enough time to enjoy this little boat trip.
Helicopter travel.
Oya Vendée Hélicoptère offers a crossing in just 10 minutes.
You can admire the island from the air. A breathtaking show.
In both cases, we advise you to opt for the first departures. You’ll have the whole day to explore the island.
Imminent departure…
With your feet firmly on the ground, you’ll finally be able to enjoy your day.
A word of advice from the team: the best way to visit Yeu Island is by bike.
Numerous bike rental companies are available on site. Unfortunately, if you book at the last minute, you run the risk of missing out on your ride. So book in advance. Here are a few addresses:
- Vélo Yeu
- La Roue Libre
- Ker Cycle
On the program …
Discover all the island’s secrets by bike. There are plenty of trails to enjoy the scenery.

Cycling around the island is not difficult, as the terrain is fairly flat all the way.
Get started, at your own pace
Nevertheless, there are a few spots on the island not to be missed.
Le Vieux Château.
Classified as a historic monument, this is an architectural gem.
Its special feature: it is built on a rock and faces the ocean.

The beaches
After your walk, take the time to stop off at one of the island’s magnificent beaches.
From small, intimate coves to large beaches, there’s something for everyone.
Despite its size, the island boasts some thirty beaches.
We have a few favorites:
La plage des Soux, a small cove with turquoise waters.
L’Anse des Broches
La Plage de la Belle Maison
Sabias Beach
Take the time to put down your towel and enjoy a swim in clear water surrounded by cliffs. What a kick!
A little extra: if cycling isn’t your cup of tea, opt for a more original visit aboard the island’s little train.
To end your day on a high note, sit down at one of Port Joinville’s restaurants.
Our favorite is La Plancha du Pêcheur. A deliciously cooked menu that will make your taste buds tingle.
